Reiki and Energy Healing - Karen Nguyen
About the practice
What is Reiki? The awareness that an unseen energy flows through all living things and directly affects the quality of a person’s health has been part of the wisdom of many cultures since ancient times. This life energy goes by many names: qi in China, ki in Japan, and prana in India. The ancient Hawaiians called it ti or ki. It has also been called orgone energy and élan vital, and science refers to it as biofield energy. When your life energy is low, it is more difficult to deal with stress; you may not sleep well, and you’re more susceptible to illness. When your life energy is strong, you feel strong, can more easily deal with stress, and are less likely to get sick. Reiki is a technique that increases a person’s supply of life energy. (From the International Center for Reiki Training) My Education All my life I have had a desire to help people. I started with a BS in microbiology working in biotechnology research to develop cures for childhood viruses. Then after my children were in school, I decided to get a credential in high school science and teach students the wonders of the natural world. A few years ago I had several major down turns to my life physically and emotionally and learned about a healing modality called Reiki. I found a Master Reiki Teacher Lillian Kurosaka in Santa Barbara. At first Reiki was a way to improve my own life and vitality. But as my own life improved, I wanted to share this way of healing with others, not only as a practitioner but as a teacher. So happily last summer I became a Reiki Master Teacher after two years of intense studying and training. The next phase in my mysterious journey with Reiki starts in March this year, when a group of holistic healers and I open a healing center in Orcutt, near Santa Maria. The center will provide multiple modalities of healing for the community, including Reiki, Feng Shui and much more. Reiki Classes Classes are available for those wishing to learn how to give Reiki sessions. Reiki is simple and easy to learn; anyone can learn it, and there are no prerequisites. Once you’ve learned, you can give Reiki to yourself or to others. Teacher training classes are also available. (From the International Center for Reiki Training) Community Reiki Events Once a month, we will host a Reiki Community Event. The event will showcase public demonstrations of Reiki and mini-sessions will be available for a small donation. Professional Reiki practitioners will be available for questions and answers.
